exploring the catskills
« on: September 16, 2003, 08:22:11 PM »
I plan on visiting the Catskills in October and especially am looking forward to seeing The Pines.  I have fond memories of the hotel from my visits as a teenager in the early 80's.  I also am really into exploring abandoned buildings.  Does anybody know of any other abandoned hotels or ruins of hotels that are worth visiting?  If so, I'd love to know where they are located.  I wish there was a map out there showing where the hotels used to be so people can see what is there now. That would make this so much easier than searching for abandoned swimming pools in overgrown forests!

Hi, this seems kinda weird cause I have never had any1 else 2 talk about this stuff 2.  If you are in Fallsburg you might want 2 also check out the Catskill Funland (they took the sign away) but it is located on route 42 going towards Monticello on the right hand side.  It has a Spanish style archeiture & a brand new house was just built on the property...  Also the Eldorado in Fallsburg as well but you can only really see it on the 42 side past the Stewart shop.  The most interesting is the Heiden Hotel also in Fallsburg - just find out where the Raleigh is & its on the same road on the same side as the Raleigh.  Also on the same road is another hotel that sits way in the woods - a pinkish color hidden away by the pine trees - I dont know the name of this hotel it is all boarded up now, but it is very close to the Raleigh on the opposite side of the street & it has a some type of rope that has something to do with the jewish tradition I think - if anyone knows anything on these hotels PLEASE CONTACT ME!!!  I want to get pictures of them before they disappear - also there was a hotel on Loch Sheldrake - a beautiful building not far from the ice cream stand - that I wanted to get a better look at & when I went back it was gone (2004) - leveled to the ground - DOES ANY1 KNOW THE NAME OF THAT HOTEL?  A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING!!! HELP!
