The Sunrise Bungelow Colony in South Fallsburg
« on: April 25, 2007, 07:09:17 PM »
My parents owned this bungalow colony for 35 years. As a teenager I did alot of work for my parents. Next to the colony was the Nemerson Hotel on one side and the Majestic Hotel on the other.
At one point we did not have any swimming facilities, so I drove the renters to Echo Lake near the Windsor Hotel.
I got myself another job as a busboy at the Olympic Hotel and I also was a
caddy at the Concord Hotel when the course was only nine holes.
I caddied for Jake LaMatta, Vicky LaMatta, and Buddy Hackett.
I knew the owner of the Rivoli Theater in South Fallsburg and I believe he was also the owner of Poppins.........I loved those days in the Catskills!

Everyone has something nice to say regarding the Catskills during their time period in Sullivan County. Can you imagine someone like me who started their Catskill experience in 1948 at the age of 15. Boy how great it was. Things in town(South Fallsburg) like the Fallsburg National Bank, the candystores, the post office, hitchhiking to other towns, the pharmacies, visiting hotel after hotel(small ones and biggies) watching husbands leaving their wives for the week on Sunday, the wives removing their wedding bands until their husband returned on Friday evening. OH BOY! WHAT A SCENE ! Good thing I wasn't married ! I had a 35 year experience in the Borscht Belt!
